Chennai: The BJP mocked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent speech in the Parliament where he said that the BJP can never rule Tamil Nadu. Citing the local body election results, the BJP said that the results should have 'disabused him (Rahul Gandhi) of such notions'.

In a tweet, Amit Malviya, the incharge of BJP's National Information and Technology Department, said, "Just a few days back Rahul Gandhi held out a prophecy in Parliament that the BJP will never rule Tamilnadu. I hope ULB elections have disabused him of such notions."

"BJP is now the 3rd largest party after DMK and AIADMK, ahead of the Congress. BJP won in areas it hadn’t won ever!" he said.

Overall BJP won 230 town panchayat wards 56 municipal wards and 22 corporation wards. The BJP bagged the seats by contesting alone in the polls.

However, Congress bagged seats higher than BJP but in an alliance with DMK. The Congress won 368 town panchayat wards, 151 municipal wards and 73 corporation wards.

Overall, DMK swept the polls and made AIADMK face one of the worst defeats even in its own bastion.
