In a shocking incident, miscreants allegedly hurled a crude bomb near Gandhi Primary School in the Subodh Roy Sarani area of Kanchrapara Ward No. 7 on Sunday. The incident left several individuals injured, who were promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention. The local police force and fire brigade are on the scene, actively addressing the situation.
Talking to news agency ANI, Ward No. 7 councillor Sarmishta Majumdar expressed her dismay over the incident, stating, "I had gone to the doctor when the blast was heard... This is a very unfortunate incident... The reasons are not yet known... The culprits should be punished..."
This incident follows a similar occurrence in August last year, where two individuals were seriously injured in an explosion during the alleged assembly of a crude bomb in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, according to ANI. Authorities reported that the blast occurred while the individuals were assembling the explosive device at home. The incident took place in ward no. 7 of Kamarhati city in the North 24 Parganas district.
A significant police presence was deployed in the area in response to the incident, with Assistant Commissioner of Police, Subir Roy, and fire department officials present at the scene.
During the nomination process for the panchayat polls last year, crude bombs were allegedly hurled at the Block Development Office (BDO) in Ahmadpur, Birbhum district.
The incident came amid a series of violent clashes and disruptions that have marred the otherwise democratic process of filing nominations for the panchayat elections in the state.
