Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, who reached the capital city Lucknow for the 3-day visit, directly attacked the Adityanath government over recently held Panchayat polls.

Lucknow: Congress General Secretary and UP in-charge Priyanka Gandhi has made a scathing remark on the Uttar Pradesh government. She targeted the Adityanath government over the alleged malpractices during the panchayat elections.

Priyanka questioned the government's statements on development.

"The elections were conducted during the second wave of COVID-19. Several people got infected with the virus. Many people also lost their lives, but the panchayat elections still went ahead," she said.

Priyanka Gandhi spoke about the violence during the election of the District Panchayat President and Block Chief.

She claimed that the police and administration kidnapped the candidates. "The police picked up the candidates who were going to enroll. Enrollment papers were torn. Even women candidates were beaten up. The administration kept threatening people for votes. The Adityanath government is resorting to unfair means and even using the police to kill democracy," she alleged.

Priyanka Gandhi On Three-Day Lucknow Tour
Priyanka Gandhi is on a three-day visit to Lucknow. Priyanka Gandhi, who reached Lucknow on Friday afternoon, staged a silent protest for a few hours.

After garlanding Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Hazratganj, Priyanka Gandhi was to go to the party headquarters and partake in meetings, but she chose to carry out a silent protest instead. Priyanka Gandhi's protest was not preplanned, but her sudden protest created political tremors in UP.  After ending the protest, she went on to hold a press conference.

Senior Congress leaders said that Priyanka's protest was in response to the way the ruling party (BJP) adopted a coercive strategy to grab the chair of the District Panchayat President and Block Chief in the elections. Apart from this, the protest was also aimed at the violence that took place in the elections and the mistreatment women were subjected to.

The protest was also against the rising inflation and unemployment in the state.
