50 Tourists Stranded In Uttarakhand's New Tehri Rescued Safely

On Sunday, the tourists got stranded in the Sitapur area, near Dhanolti, after the water level of the Maundkhala seasonal stream increased significantly all of a sudden due to heavy rain in the hills.

Around 50 tourists stranded in Uttarakhand's New Tehri due to the flooding of a seasonal stream following incessant rain have been rescued safely, officials said on Monday. On Sunday, the tourists got stranded in the Sitapur area, near Dhanolti, after the water level of the Maundkhala seasonal stream increased significantly all of a sudden due to heavy rain in the hills. News agency PTI cited Dhanolti's Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Lakshmi Raj Chauhan as saying that it damaged a temporary bridge over it.

Chauhan while talking to the media said that all of them (stranded tourists) were rescued safely by police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, who rushed to the spot immediately. He added that government officials have been asked to make public announcements and urge people to not go near the water bodies amid rain, reported PTI.

Uttarakhand continues to receive continuous downpours. Due to the incessant rain, traffic has been suspended and the Yamunotri pilgrimage halted. Boulders continue to fall at many places on the Yamunotri Highway for the last three days as continuous downpours continued to wreak havoc in the Uttarkashi district, officials said. District disaster management official of Uttarkashi, Devendra Patwal, said that due to the boulders falling continuously for the last three days, the traffic on both sides of the road has come to a complete standstill.

Meanwhile, fresh rain hit parts of Delhi on Sunday evening while Yamuna's water level crossed the danger mark and was recorded at 206.26 meters at 3 PM and 206.31 meters at 4 PM yesterday. Today, the Yamuna was flowing at 206.5 metres at 11 am, as reported by the Central Water Commission. The Delhi government is making announcements to vacate low-lying areas after Yamuna's water level crossed the danger mark. In a video shared on news agency PTI’s Twitter handle, the light shower in the national capital's Nizamuddin area could be seen.
