Telangana Tribal Girl Cracks IIT But Almost Settles For Farm Work Due To Cash Crunch. Govt Steps In

Badevath Madhulatha, a resident of Rajanna Sircilla district, achieved 824th rank JEE 2024 under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category and was offered a seat in B Tech Engineering Physics at IIT Patna.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has stepped in to provide financial support to a tribal student, Madhulatha Badevath, who had to herd goats due to financial constraints despite securing a seat in a prestigious IIT Patna.

Badevath Madhulatha, a resident of Rajanna Sircilla district, achieved an impressive 824th rank in this year’s JEE under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category and was offered a seat in B Tech Engineering Physics at IIT Patna. However, her family, who rely on agriculture as primary job, struggled to arrange the required Rs 25 lakh for tuition fees and other expenses.

Despite paying Rs 17,500 last month to confirm her admission, the family could not meet the remaining financial requirement. As her father was unwell, Madhulatha took up herding goats in her village to support her family, as per a report on PTI.

The faculty of the Tribal Welfare Junior College, where Madhulatha completed her Class 12 appealed to the authorities for assistance highlighting the urgency as the fee payment deadline approached on July 27.

The Telangana state government responded and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy issued orders for financial assistance to cover the required amount for Madhulatha’s education.

On Wednesday, the Chief Minister congratulated Madhulatha for her academic achievements despite the financial hardships and announced that the tribal welfare department had released the necessary funds. Revanth Reddy expressed his hope that Madhulatha would continue to excel academically and bring pride to Telangana.
