Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has unveiled a pioneering recruitment and social welfare program specifically for the transgender community, marking a historic first for India and setting a new standard globally. This initiative is not only a landmark move for India but is also unprecedented worldwide.

During a recent review meeting focused on Hyderabad’s development, road maintenance within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, and the upkeep of city pavements, CM Revanth Reddy proposed an innovative solution: the involvement of the transgender community in managing city traffic.

"Chief Minister Revanth Reddy suggested that transgenders be recruited as volunteers to assist in traffic regulation within the city," an official statement noted, as per PTI. Currently, Home Guards assist the traffic police department in these duties, and the Chief Minister recommended extending this opportunity to the transgender community in a similar capacity.

To support this initiative, the CM proposed that these volunteers receive a stipend. Officials have been tasked with identifying interested individuals from the transgender community for this role. The initiative includes a few days of specialized training to prepare them for their new responsibilities.

Additionally, the CM has directed the provision of special uniforms for transgender individuals serving in these roles, ensuring their inclusion is both respectful and integrated into the city's official frameworks.

This initiative showcases innovative governance by addressing multiple societal issues simultaneously. Hyderabad is reportedly known for having fewer traffic problems among India's major cities.

The Cyberabad Police in July with support from IT companies, launched an initiative called ‘Traffic Marshals’ to ensure smooth flow of traffic in Cyberabad, particularly in the IT corridor.

The Society of Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), in collaboration with the Cyberabad traffic police, introduced the first group of 83 traffic marshals in the city, as reported by The News Minute.
