Telangana news: A female intern working in the casualty wing was assaulted by a drunk patient at Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad on Wednesday. The shocking video showed the patient, who had been brought to the hospital by a relative for treatment, suddenly grabbing and attacking the intern while she was attending to another patient.

According to witnesses, the assault was unprovoked and caught everyone off guard. The patient, a man in his late 40s, violently grabbed the intern, tearing her apron in the process as she attempted to defend herself. Fellow staff members and other medicos in the ward quickly intervened, overpowering the assailant and rescuing the intern.

The attacker was subsequently handed over to the Special Protection Force (SPF) personnel, who then took him to Chilkalguda Police Station, as reported by IANS. The incident, which was captured on CCTV cameras, has sparked outrage among the hospital staff and medical professionals across the state.

Jyothsna Tirunagari, National Spokesperson & Ex-Telangana Telugu Mahila President said, "The recent attack on a female junior doctor at Gandhi Hospital is alarming and unacceptable! Our healthcare warriors, especially female doctors, deserve a safe working environment. I urge @TelanganaCMO, @TelanganaDGP Garu, @TelanganaPolice,Hon'ble CM @revanth_anumula Garu,Hon'ble Health Minister @TelanganaHealth Garu and @MoHFW_Telangana to ensure immediate and stringent security measures in all hospitals to protect our doctors."

This assault comes at a time of heightened concern for the safety of healthcare workers, following a recent strike by medical professionals demanding better security measures after the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) has strongly condemned the incident, urging swift action. They reported the matter to the hospital's Superintendent, who assured that an FIR would be filed immediately to ensure appropriate legal action is taken.
