Heavy rains pounded various parts of Hyderabad and other districts across Telangana causing significant disruption and leading to tragic incidents on Monday and Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad and almost all districts in the state, warning of continued rainfall until August 23.
Several areas, including Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jagtial, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Jogulamba Gadwal, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, and others, experienced light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning. The relentless downpour in Hyderabad caused a portion of a wall at LB Cricket Stadium to collapse, which also led to the uprooting of a tree, highlighting the severity of the weather.

The Southwest Monsoon remained active over Telangana with isolated heavy rainfall reported in Mahabubabad, Medak and Siddipet districts. Nizamabad recorded the highest rainfall in the state on Monday with 105.5mm.
In a separate incident, two people lost their lives after being struck by lightning in Jogulamba, Gadwal district. A 40-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl were killed in Gattu and Maldakal, respectively, while working in agricultural fields during the storm.
The heavy rains also claimed the life of a daily wage worker in Hyderabad. The victim, identified as 43-year-old Vijay, was found dead near Baptist Church Ramnagar. Police suspect that Vijay may have been swept away by floodwaters while navigating the waterlogged streets.
The intense rainfall led to widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion across Hyderabad and other towns, further disrupting daily life.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad administration declared holiday for students on Tuesday due to the incessant rainfall.
