Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi filed his nomination as the party's candidate on Monday for the upcoming Rajya Sabha byelection from Telangana. He was accompanied by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, his ministerial colleagues, AICC incharge of party affairs in Telangana Deepa Das Munsi during submission of nomination papers to the officials in the state legislative assembly.

"Abhishek Manu Singhvi has filed his nomination for Rajya Sabha from Telangana. All of us are very happy that the Congress party high command has chosen Abhishek Manu Singhvi to represent Telangana in Rajya Sabha," said State Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy.

"The state will benefit from Abhishek Manu Singhvi representing us in Rajya Sabha...," he added.

Singhvi received endorsment from the ruling Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Telangana on Sunday night for the Rajya Sabha bypoll.

Following the meeting of the CLP in Hyderabad, Chief Minister and state Congress president Revanth Reddy told reporters that Singhvi was introduced to Congress MLAs, MPs and MLCs at the meeting.

Speaking on the disputes with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh following the state's bifurcation in 2014, the Telangana CM said Singhvi's election would help in highlighting Telangana's concerns and problems not only in Parliament but also in courts.
