New Delhi: A day after resigning from the Lok Sabha, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday listed reasons why he chose to remain MLA from Karhal.

Akhilesh Yadav said the "sacrifice" was necessary to carry out the struggle against inflation, unemployment and social injustice.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Yadav said, "Crores of people of UP have given us a moral victory in the Assembly polls. To honour this, I will represent Karhal and always remain committed to the progress of Azamgarh."

"This sacrifice is necessary for the struggle against inflation, unemployment, and social injustice," he added in his Hindi tweet.

Samajwadi Party has suffered defeat in the results of the Assembly elections declared on March 10. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance has won 273 seats and captured power once again while the SP alliance was reduced to 125 seats. Akhilesh Yadav has decided to remain active in UP politics keeping 2027 in mind.

Akhilesh Yadav, who was the Chief Minister from 2012 to 2017, had turned to Delhi after bidding farewell to UP. After winning the Lok Sabha elections from Ajgarh in 2019, he went to Parliament. Experts believe that Akhilesh Yadav remained less active in UP politics for a long time, due to which he has suffered losses. In such a situation now Akhilesh Yadav has changed his strategy.

With the BSP and the Congress getting decimated in the state polls, a lot more poll battles are lined up in the politically essential Uttar Pradesh before the 2024 General Election.

Decisions to 36 state Legislative Council seats are scheduled for April 9.

Polls for 11 seats of the Rajya Sabha and the official political decision will occur by July this year.
