New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Thursday gave general consent to the CBI to investigate cases related to the state.
"Chief Minister Bhaja Lal Sharma on Thursday gave permission from the state government to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the cases related to the state," a statement said, reported PTI.
With the approval, the CBI will not require the permission of the state government every time it needs to investigate any matter related to the state.
The order is aimed at enabling the CBI to take quick and effective action against the corrupt.
Last year, the former Congress government, which was recently deposed by the BJP, withdrew the consent to the CBI to investigate the cases in the state.
Sharma became the new chief minister of Rajasthan after a stunning poll victory in the recently concluded assembly elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party won 115 seats out of the 199 that went to the polls. while ex-CM Ashok Gehlot's Congress managed to win only 69 seats.
In the last week of December 2023, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma also granted consent for a CBI investigation of offences in the northeastern state.
After giving the nod, Lalduhoma had also said that his government is resolute in eliminating corruption for the welfare of the citizens.
"Committed to transparency and accountability, #Mizoram grants consent for a #CBI investigation. Our government is resolute in eliminating corruption for the welfare of our citizens. #MizoramAgainstCorruption," Lalduhoma said in a post on X.
This came after the Mizoram government published a gazette notification allowing CBI investigation of offences in the state under the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act 1948.
