'T-Shirt Ke Peche Pad Gaye...': Rahul Gandhi Attacks BJP, Reveals Reason Behind Not Wearing Sweater

Rahul Gandhi mocked those who were shaming him for wearing a t-shirt in the icy north of India during the winter.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who has been spearheading the party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, on Monday said that when the yatra reached Madya Pradesh, it was only slightly cold. He also said that three poor children came to him in torn shirts and shivered when he met them. That day the Congress leader decided until he shivers, he will only be wearing a t-shirt. "When I start shivering and feel cold I would think to wear a sweater," he added.

During the party's Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was only wearing a t-shirt. This has become a popular topic of conversation on social media lately. He was praised for his endurance by many congress leaders, but BJP leaders also said that he wears thermal underwear.

Earlier on Sunday, he mocked those who were shaming him for wearing a t-shirt in the icy north of India during the winter. Supriya Shrinate, the leader of the Congress, accused the leader of the BJP, Amit Malviya, of tweeting a "fake clip" of Gandhi and misquoting him in response to his "Tapasvi" remark on Sunday.

“The BJP and the RSS say there should not be respect of 'tapasya' and those who do their 'pooja' (worship), only they should be respected. Did demonetisation respect the 'tapasya' of the poor? Certainly not. It was an attack on 'tapasya…" Gandhi had said Sunday.

Addressing a public meeting after the Bharat Jodo Yatra led by him reached Ambala district Monday evening, Gandhi said Haryana is the land of the Mahabharata and went on to take a dig at the RSS and the ruling dispensation. "Kauravas of the 21st century wear khaki half-pant and run 'shakhas'. Beside them, stand the country's two to three richest people," Gandhi said.

"Who were the Kauravas? I will first tell you about the 21st century Kauravas, they wear khakhi half-pants, they carry lathi in hand and hold shakhas.... India's 2-3 billionaires are standing with the Kauravas," he said. ""Did the Pandavas do demonetisation, implement wrong GST? Would they have ever done so? Never. Why? Because they were tapasvis and they knew that demonetisation, wrong GST, farm laws are a way to steal from tapasvis of this land.... (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi did sign on these decisions, but the power of India's 2-3 billionaires were behind it, whether you agree or not," Gandhi said.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, has so far covered Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, and is currently in Haryana.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra, which kicked off from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7, will end with Rahul Gandhi hoisting the national flag in Srinagar on January 30.
