New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday told the farmers in the state that his government is committed to bailing them out from any natural calamity while it also tries to duly compensate them while acquiring land.
"During a meeting with the farmers, CM @BhagwantMann said that the state govt is committed to bail out farmers of state from any sort of natural calamity. Chief Minister said that every effort is being made to duly compensate farmers while acquiring even an inch of their land," a tweet by the Chief Minister's Office informed.
The Punjab Chief Minister chaired a meeting with farmers at Punjab Bhagwan in Chandigarh on Friday where he addressed various issues like loss incurred due to the spread of Lumpy disease and steps for paddy straw management to prevent stubble burning.
He assured farmers that all the Deputy Commissioners have been directed to ensure proper assessment of the loss borne by them, asserting that they will be duly compensated. This includes loss suffered due to damage by worms and pests.
He said that the state government is committed to safeguarding the interests of the farmers at all costs.
Govt Firmly Committed To Procure All Grains In Mandis: Bhagwant Mann
CM Bhagwant Mann also expressed the firm commitment of the state government to procure all grains in mandis. He said that the state government has already made elaborate arrangements for purchasing the grains as soon as they arrive in the Mandis.
Smooth and hassle-free procurement of grains is being ensured in the market so that farmers don’t face any sort of inconvenience, Bhagwant Mann said.
He also addressed concerns pertaining to FIRs against farmers who participated in the protests against now-repealed agrarian laws. He noted that the state government has already begun the process of taking back the FIRs registered against the farmers.

Punjab Govt's Stance On Lumpy Skin Disease, Privatisation Of Power Distribution
As for woes caused by the Lumpy skin disease, the Chief Minister informed that his government will send a detailed list to the union government and raise the issue of compensating the farmers.
The state government is fully against the privatisation of the distribution of power, Bhagwant Mann said as he assured that the Punjab government will vehemently oppose any move of the Centre in this regard.
Punjab Govt Urges Farmers' Support In Paddy Straw Management
This meeting was chaired the day after the Punjab Chief Minister held meetings with various farmer bodies which put up demands including Rs 6,000 per acre for stubble management, an increase in cane prices, and compensation to dairy farmers whose livestock was affected by the lumpy skin disease.
Paddy straw burning in Punjab and Haryana is one of the reasons behind the alarming spike in air pollution levels in the national capital in October and November.
In both meetings, Bhagwant Mann assured the farmers about the state government's efforts for paddy straw management. He said the farmers should support the state government for this noble cause to prevent stubble burning, saying it is the need of the hour for protecting the environment.
