New Delhi: The prices of compressed natural gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) have been hiked by at least Rs 3 in Delhi-NCR from today. The Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has increased the CNG prices in Delhi from Rs 75.61 to Rs 78.61. In Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, CNG price has been revised from Rs 78.17 to Rs 81.17. The hike in the natural gas prices comes ahead of the Diwali festival later this month.
The CNG price has been raised to Rs 86.94 in Gurugram, Rs 89.07 in Rewari, Rs 87.27 in Karnal, Rs 85.84 in Muzaffarnagar and Rs 89.81 in Kanpur. IGL also hiked the price of Domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in Delhi to Rs 53.59 per SCM. The new price will come into effect from today, according to the news agency ANI.

For Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida, the PNG price is Rs 53.46 per SCM, while in Gurugram, it will now cost Rs 51.79 per SCM. The IGL has also updated the price of PNG in other cities including Karnal, Rewari, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Shamli, Ajmer, Pali, Rajsamand, Kanpur, Hamirpur, and Fatehpur.
The price hike of natural gas will impact the cost of cab services. Those who travel by auto every day will also have to shell out more.
Last week, the government raised the rate paid for gas produced from old gas fields to Rs 8.57 per unit from Rs 6.1 per million British thermal unit (mmBtu). Even the price of gas extracted from difficult sectors has increased from Rs 9.92 to Rs12.6 per British thermal unit, reported news agency PTI.
Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) also raised the price of CNG by Rs 6 per kg on Monday in Mumbai and its surrounding areas. The state-run company cited the 40 per cent increase in input prices by the government from October 1 for the steep increase in the retail prices along with the global supply cut.
Gas prices are revised twice annually—from April 1 to September 30 and from October 1 to March 31.
