Media personnel were heckled by a person accompanying the grandfather of a juvenile accused as police took the latter for questioning at the Commissioner's Office in Pune on Thursday. Police intervened to defuse the situation, news agency ANI posted a video of the same.
The Pune Police questioned the grandfather of the 17-year-old boy who allegedly crashed his high-end car into a motorbike, leaving two persons dead. The questioning was part of an investigation related to an offence registered against juvenile's father, staff members, and the owners of two liquor-serving establishments in the Mundhwa area, news agency PTI reported.
"The minor's grandfather is currently being grilled by the sleuths of crime branch at the Pune police commissionerate," a crime branch official told PTI.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday when the Porsche, allegedly driven by the 17-year-old was reportedly intoxicated, collided with a motorbike at Kalyan Nagar, killing two software engineers.
The minor's father, Vishal Agarwal, 50, was arrested under the Juvenile Justice Act for handing over his car to his underage son, thereby exposing him to danger. Police also arrested two employees and the owner of the Coise restaurant and Hotel Blak Club in Mundhwa, where the teenager allegedly consumed alcohol before the accident.
The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) initially granted the boy bail on a surety of Rs 7,500 and an assurance from his grandfather to keep him away from bad influences. "His grandfather has given an assurance that he will keep the Child-in-Conflict with Law (CCL) away from any bad company and he will concentrate on his study or any vocational course which is useful for his career. He is ready to abide by the condition imposed on him. Therefore, it is just and proper to release the CCL on bail," the JJB order stated.
However, following public outcry over the swift bail, the JJB on Wednesday remanded the boy to observation home until June 5.
