A nine-year-old girl child, who went missing a few days ago, was found dead in a drain near her house in Muthialpet block in Puducherry. The Class 5 student at a government school in Muthialpet went missing on March 2 evening. 


The issue came to light after her parents made a complaint to the police. 


According to PTI, the police started an extensive search to locate the missing girl, as per sources.


However, parents and Solai Nagar residents still staged a protest in Muthialpet urging the police to find the girl.


Meanwhile, two days later, the police received a tipoff that a sack was floating in a nearby drain. The police immediately responded, recovered the sack and discovered the girl's body. The girl's hands and legs were bound with ropes.


Based on preliminary investigation, the police suspect that the girl had been abducted and killed.


According to police sources, the body was taken to the government hospital in Kadirkamam for examination with a post-mortem scheduled at JIPMER on Wednesday.

The police were deployed to maintain law and order accompanied by personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force.














"We are interrogating the suspects, and will get a clear picture during interrogation," the sources added, as per PTI. The police arrested four persons including a minor in connection with the incident. 














Independent legislator Prakash Kumar submitted a memorandum to the Director General of Police, urging swift action to apprehend the culprits responsible for the girl's death. Additionally, he called for the installation of CCTV cameras in multiple locations across Muthialpet.


The school attended by the deceased girl announced a closure on Wednesday to observe a day of mourning for the student, as confirmed by school officials.
