The academic year 2022-2023 in UT schools started eight months ago in June last year but the government school students in Puducherry are yet to receive their uniforms. In many schools, students are reportedly yet to receive even their textbooks.

Earlier, the Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) condemned the AINRC-BJP alliance government for the sorry state of affairs in the government schools in the union territory. He also accused the government of ignoring the infrastructural deficiencies and delaying the distribution of books, uniforms, laptops and bicycles to the students. He also came down heavily against the government for delaying the teacher's recruitment.

He said, the union territory was spending crores of rupees to conduct G20 meetings in Puducherry amid the poor conditions of schools. This is an injustice to the children, he said, as per The Hindu.

He also alleged that the government was encouraging private schools over government institutions.

"Both the government and the Education Department have been the villains of this piece for their failure to improve government schools," he said in a statement as per The Hindu.
