Chennai: A day after senior Congress leader Ugrappa called PM Modi 'Bhasmasura', BJP National General Secretary CT Ravi responded to the statement by saying that PM Modi is a 'Bhasmasura' for anti-nationals while he's a lord Narayana for the countrymen.

On Saturday, addressing the reporters, CT Ravi said, "PM Modi is against the corrupt and anti-nationals so for them he's 'Bhasmasura' but for countrymen, he's like Lord Narayana."

"PM Modi is in power to 'bhasma' (burn and turn to ashes) the corrupt," he said.

CT Ravi said: "Cultures of people in Maharashtra & Karnataka are not very different. We're the same. There's a relationship b/w Marathas & Kannadigas. Whatever SC's decision is, I appeal that this bond be strengthened & all struggle should be kept aside."

Earlier, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra lashed out against the former Congress MP's statement. Sambit Patra said that at the time the G20 leaders were lauding PM Modi Congress was abusing him.

Even in 2020, Ugrappa created a controversy by calling PM Modi a 'Bhasmasur' and Union Minister Amit Shah a 'Shani'.

According to ANI, Ugrappa in 2020 said, "Now all of a sudden without solving the core issues like the economy, unemployment and poverty, the BJP ad Sangh Parivar are trying to project only emotional issues. Thereby, they are diverting the attention of the people. So ultimately it will be a curse on the society and this is the reason why I call them (Shah and Modi) Shani and Bhasmasur."
