Background
Nuh Braj Mandal Yatra Live: Hello and welcome to the live blog on the developments on Hindu organisations' proposed religious processions in Haryana's Nuh.
A month after communal violence during a religious procession burned the town, Haryana's Nuh has been fortified in view of the yatra proposed by VHP and Sarv Jatiya Hindu Mahanchayat on the last Monday of the holy month of Sawan this year. The Hindu outfit has called for a 'Brij Mandal' and 'Jal Abhishek Yatra' for which the state administration has denied the permission
However, VHP has said that it has not asked for any permission so there is no question of any and the procession will be taken out as planned. Meanwhile, Haryana has deployed a police force across Nuh to keep outsiders away from the town allowing only locals to get inside the district.
Vishva Hindu Parishad continues to maintain that there is no need to obtain permission for religious events as it remains adamant about carrying out the procession. “We are aware that G20 Summit is going to start and so we will shorten the yatra. But we will not abandon the procession altogether and will take it out as scheduled tomorrow. I will personally take part in the yatra, ” VHP leader Alok Kumar told news agency ANI.
“Why should there be law and order problem? The government and local administration are there to maintain law and order, thus, enabling all religious events to be held peacefully. We will take out the rally peacefully and the administration will be there to maintain law and order,” he added.
1,900 Haryana Police personnel and 24 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed, news agency PTI reported a police spokesperson in Nuh as informing.
Last month, a clash between two groups in Haryana's Nuh got transformed into a major concern for the state government. Two home guards, one civilian were killed and at least 15 others, including cops, were left injured after a team of police reached the area to contain the clashes. The unrest meanwhile, reached Gurugram as a mob pelted stones and torched shops and a cab near Ambedkar Chowk in the Sohna Road area, reported the news agency IANS.
