Assam Floods: Rahul Gandhi To Meet Flood Victims At Lakhipur Relief Camp Tomorrow
Rahul Gandhi will reach a flood relief camp in Lakhipur from the Kumbhigram airport in Silchar, where he will interact with the people who have taken shelter there.
As the northeastern state of Assam continues to suffer due to floods, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is all set to visit the state and meet the flood victims on Monday, party leaders stated. The Leader of Opposition in the Parliament is scheduled to arrive at the Kumbhigram airport in Silchar in Cachar district tomorrow morning, while on his way to strife-torn Manipur.
A Congress spokesperson told news agency PTI that Gandhi will reach a flood relief camp in Lakhipur from the airport directly. There he will interact with the people who have taken shelter there.
"The camp is on the route that Gandhi will take to the Jiribam district of Manipur," he said.
Till date, around 22.70 lakh people have been affected by the floods in 28 districts of Assam this year. A total of 78 people have lost their lives in floods, landslides and storms in the northeastern state.
The Congress leader will return to Silchar airport from Jiribam, from where he will fly to Imphal for his Manipur tour. This will be his first visit to the Northeast after becoming the LoP in Lok Sabha.
On July 6, Rahul Gandhi took to X, where he expressed condolences to the bereaved families and urged Congress leaders and workers, and Centre to provide support to those affected due to the floods in Assam.

"The flood situation in Assam is becoming increasingly dangerous. My thoughts are with our brothers and sisters reeling under the deluge. Deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I appeal to Congress leaders and workers to provide help in rescue and rehabilitation operations. I urge the Central and State governments to compassionately and expeditiously extend all possible support to those affected," Gandhi posted on X on Saturday.

8 More Killed As Flood Situation In Assam Remains Grim
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority stated in its bulletin that eight more people had lost their lives in the prevailing flood situation in Assam on Sunday.
"Two deaths each were reported from Dhubri and Nalbari, and one each from Cachar, Goalpara, Dhemaji and Sivsagar," the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin said.
With this, the casualty toll increased to 78. These deaths have been caused in this year's flood, landslide and storms in the state.
Altogether 22,74,289 people in 3,446 villages of 28 districts were affected by the flood, the bulletin said. 70 people and 459 cattle were rescued in the last 24 hours by different agencies including NDRF, SDRF, and local administartion that have been carrying out relief and rescue operations.
