New Delhi: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mulayam Singh Yadav admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram has been admitted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) on Monday, as reported by news agency ANI. “Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav is currently admitted in the critical care unit of Medanta Hospital and is being treated by a specialised team of doctors”, the hospital said in a statement.
Mulayam's son Akhilesh, daughter in-law Dimple Yadav and brother Shivpal Singh Yadav visited the hospital on Sunday. Some party workers, as well, arrived at the hospital premises to enquire about his condition, sources said, adding they have been advised not to visit the health facility.
"Respected netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) is admitted to the ICU. His condition is stable. It is a humble request to all of you not to come to the hospital. Information about his health will be given from time to time," the SP had written on its official Twitter handle on Sunday.
The 82-year-old former Uttar Pradesh chief minister has been receiving treatment while being hospitalised to the hospital for the past few days. According to sources, the former CM was moved to the ICU this morning and treatment is still ongoing.
According to sources, he was admitted to the hospital following a serious health condition, and his medical condition is currently critical. Dr. Sushila Kataria, an expert in Internal Medicine, is currently supervising him, reported India Today.
Mulayam is suffering from a variety of age-related ailments, the most serious of which is a urinary tract infection.
Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party chief and Mulayam's elder son to inquire about the health of his father, and party patriarch Mulayam Singh, as reported by news agency PTI.
PM Modi inquired about Mulayam Singh's health in a conversation with Akhilesh. He added that he is available to help in any way that is needed, ANI reported.
Mulayam has served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for three non-consecutive terms, and he was also the Minister of Defence in the Government of India. He is a long-serving parliamentarian who currently serves as the Member of Parliament for the Lok Sabha constituency of Mainpuri. He has previously served as the Member of Parliament for the Azamgarh and Sambhal constituencies.
Yadav, often referred to as Netaji, was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh in 1967.
