Chennai: A civil police officer posted at the Neyyattinkara police station in Kerala was found dead in a private hotel in Thampanoor in Thiruvananthapuram Friday morning. The deceased has been identified as SJ Saji, local media reported, adding that staff of the hotel found the officer’s body hanging in a room in the early hours of Friday. His family said he was stressed, and had been missing for the last couple of days.
According to a report in The New Indian Express, Saji reportedly went to the hotel on Thursday afternoon and took the room on rent.
Quoting Saji's relatives, the report said he had been under a lot of stress allegedly because senior officers of the at the Neyyattinkara police station were mentally harassing him.
According to the report, the Thampanoor police have registered a case in connection with the death, and the body has been moved to the Medical College mortuary.
The relatives told the newspaper that they would approach higher officials in the police department to seek justice for Saji.
The family had lodged a complaint with the police after his disappearance two days ago. The police had filed a case after that and it was during their investigation into the matter that Saji’s location was traced to the hotel where he was found dead.
Onmanorama reported that senior officers, including the CI, would harass him, according to the family.
“There is more to be revealed and a probe should be held into his death,” the report quoted a family member as saying. The relatives did not mention why he was being "harassed".
