'Shameless Political Vendetta': Mamata Hits Out At Centre For Not Nominating Ganguly For ICC Polls

Roger Binny has been elected the 36th President of the BCCI at the AGM held on Tuesday.

New Delhi: After his ouster from the post a week back, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday once again came in support of former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, as reported by news agency PTI. "Why was Sourav not sent to ICC?', she asked. "And I am the last person to take things lying down. Just because Sourav is decent, he is maintaining a dignified silence. I smell of political vendetta here," she added.

Roger Binny, who was a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team, replacing Ganguly, has been elected the 36th President of the BCCI at the AGM held on Tuesday. However, there was no discussion about the ICC election at the AGM and it was concluded that Ganguly could get the top post of ICC.

After Binny replaced Sourav Ganguly as the new BCCI chief, the former India skipper wished Binny and wrote," I wish Roger all the best. The new group will take this forward. BCCI is in great hands. Indian cricket is strong so I wish them all the luck".

Roger Binny is one of the finest players to have played for India. He donned the Indian jersey in a total of 27 Test matches and 72 ODIs in which he scalped 47 and 77 wickets respectively.

Binny was a part of the Indian squad that won the 1983 World Cup. He played a crucial role in India’s winning run under Kapil Dev.

Roger Binny after taking the onus said that he wants to focus on the prevention of injuries as recently players like Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja were ruled out from the T20 World Cup due to an injury.

He said, "As the BCCI president, I want to primarily focus on 2 things. First is the prevention of injuries to the players. Jasprit Bumrah got injured just before the World Cup, which affects the whole plan. Second, I want to focus on the pitches in the country".

In the BCCI AGM meeting, the officials also talked about the future of Women's cricket as the general body approved Senior Men’s Future Tour Programs for 2023-2027 and Senior Women’s Future Tour Programs for 2022-2025.
