New Delhi: Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, questioned the BJP government about what would happen if the cow struck the person, mocking the notification from the Center that asked people to hug a cow on Valentine's Day, which was later removed, reported news agency PTI. "If the cow hits us, what will happen? Will they (BJP) pay us compensation?" she said, quoted by PTI.
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC or TMC) chief reiterated on Monday her call to defeat the BJP in 2024 and stated that the nation should strive to establish a "people's government to end anarchy."
In an apparent reference to BJP president J P Nadda's recent remarks on Bengali violence and corruption, Banerjee claimed in the Assembly that her state's law and order situation is superior to that of other parts of the country.
Additionally, she asserted that the BSF has "unleashed terror" in the state's border regions.
"Innocent people are being killed in bordering areas. The Centre never bothers to send fact-finding teams to look into these killings," the CM said.
Opposition BJP Stages Walkout In Bengal Assembly
The BJP staged a walkout in the Assembly after Speaker Biman Bose prevented Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari from finishing his speech on Monday.
Adhikari began his speech, criticising the governor's inaugural address, as the House gathered after recess. However, the speaker asked him not to make such claims on the House floor.
In protest, the BJP legislative party staged a walkout in the assembly and hurled slogans at the speaker.
Banerjee then stated to the Assembly, "I reserve my right to introduce privilege motion against Suvendu Adhikari for casting aspersions on the speaker."
Later, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised Adhikari's behavior in the House during her speech.
