Madhya Pradesh: 6 Railway Cops Suspended For Beating Dalit Woman, Her Grandson; CM Yadav Orders Probe

Jabalpur Railway Superintendent of Police (SP), Simala Prasad, confirmed that they have arrested Traffic Inspector, Arun, and five other policemen who are seen in the CCTV video.

The Madhya Pradesh government suspended six Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel on Thursday, including a station in-charge, in connection with the beating of a Dalit woman and her grandson in Katni district. They were suspended on the instructions of CM Mohan Yadav, who has ordered a probe into the incident.

The action was taken after a video of the Katni GRP police station went viral. CM Yadav shared this information on social media stating that an old video is going viral on the internet. After the incident came to notice, orders were given to suspend the Thana Incharge G.R.P. Katni along with one head constable and four constables, with immediate effect.

"An old video of assault by the officer/employees of Thana G.R.P. Katni is going viral on social media. As soon as it came to my notice, I immediately directed to send DIG Rail to the spot for investigation this morning. As per the preliminary investigation, orders have been given to suspend the then Thana Incharge G.R.P. Katni along with one head constable and four constables with immediate effect. Also, senior police officers have been directed to ensure that such misconduct is not repeated in the future, " CM Mohan Yadav said in a post on X.

On this matter, Jabalpur Railway Superintendent of Police (SP), Simala Prasad, said, "We saw the original video. There was a CCTV camera installed in the office. TI Arun has been suspended. Along with this, five other policemen who are seen in the video have also been suspended. The entire matter will be investigated under the leadership of IG Railway Monika Shukla."

MP BJP Government Should Wake Up Now: Congress

Over the viral video, the Congress lashed out at the state government, stating that the victims belong to the Dalit community, and that harassment of Dalits in the state must be curbed.

Madhya Pradesh Congress President, Jeetu Patwari, said, "Now the President himself is concerned about women harassment, the MP BJP government should wake up now! The unbridled incidents of Dalit harassment in MP should be curbed! Beating Dalits, making them drink urine, insulting them, trapping them in false cases, causing serious injuries, and even killing them - have become a common occurrence in my Madhya Pradesh! The Chief Minister is silent! Why?"
