3-Year-Old MP Girl Falls Into Borewell, 5-Hour Rescue Op Fails To Save Her

The borewell was more than 250 feet deep and Shoumya was stuck at a depth of 25 feet. She was rushed to hospital after being brought out, but passed away.

A 3-year-old girl died hours after she accidentally fell into a borewell near a village in the Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday evening.

The child, Shoumya, was rushed to hospital after she was brought out but couldn't make it, according to a PTI report. She had fallen into the borewell near Kasar village, located about 40 km from the district headquarters, while playing in an agriculture field around 5 pm, Bargawan police station inspector Shivpujan Mishra told the news agency.

The borewell was more than 250 feet deep and Shoumya was stuck at a depth of 25 feet, Mishra said.

Rescuers launched an immediate operation and managed to pull the girl out after five-and-a-half hours of efforts, according to a police officer. During the rescue operation, the district collector and superintendent of police reached the spot where local residents had also gathered, reported PTI.

District Chief Medical and Health Officer N.K. Jain told PTI that the child was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, but passed away.

Another Child Died In Rewa Borewell In April

In April, a 6-year-old child died after he fell into a 60-foot-deep borewell in Rewa. The incident occurred in the Manika village area, approximately 90 kilometres from the district headquarters. Mayur, also known as Mayank, was the son of Vijay, an Adivasi. He was playing with other children in a field when he accidentally fell into the open borewell.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the authorities were alerted by the family members.

The ensuing rescue operation was complicated by rain. The child was trapped 60 feet below the ground. As part of the rescue operation, an oxygen cylinder was lowered into the ditch, and a camera also sent in to monitor the child's movements closely.

After a 45-hour-long operation, the child’s body was brought out of the borewell.
