New Delhi: A video capturing BJP minister Kailash Vijayvargiya's light-hearted exchange with his former political adversary, Sanjay Shukla, during an event where Shukla officially joined the ruling saffron party, went viral on the social media on Saturday.

In the footage, Vijayvargiya can be seen jokingly remarking that despite enduring verbal sparring with Shukla in the past, who was formerly associated with the Congress, the tables have turned as Shukla is now joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In a light-hearted gesture, Vijayvargiya handed Shukla a BJP scarf, quipping, "You've hurled abuses at me, and now we're welcoming you into the party." The remark elicited laughter from those present. “S***e teri gali suni ab join karana pad raha hai,” Vijayvargiya could be heard saying jokingly.

The induction ceremony, held in Bhopal on Saturday morning under the leadership of former Union minister Suresh Pachouri, saw the induction of several Congress leaders, including former Indore-1 MLA Shukla, into the BJP fold.

Notably, Shukla had contested against Vijayvargiya, now a cabinet minister in Madhya Pradesh, for the Indore-1 seat in the November 2023 elections. Despite a fiercely contested battle, Vijayvargiya emerged victorious with a substantial margin of over 57,000 votes, defeating Shukla, who happens to be the son of a senior BJP leader.

During Shukla's formal induction into the BJP, he reverentially touched Vijayvargiya's feet.

It is to be noted that Shukla's father, the late Vishnu Shukla, was a senior BJP leader in Indore. However, despite his family background, Sanjay Shukla had aligned himself with the Congress, contesting and emerging victorious as its candidate in the 2018 assembly elections.

Notably, with the Lok Sabha elections just a few weeks away, the BJP and Congress have announced their first list of candidates.
