On the visit, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and former Wayanad MP, expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister for his planned visit. On Friday, Gandhi took to social media to thank Modi, stating, "This is a good decision. The landslides, which occurred on July 30, have resulted in significant loss of life and property in Wayanad. Official reports indicate that at least 226 people have lost their lives, with many others still missing. The disaster is being regarded as one of the most severe natural calamities to have struck Kerala in recent history.

So far, the NDRF rescue teams have successfully rescued 30 individuals, evacuated 520 people, and recovered 112 bodies. To assess the situation, the Central Government has formed an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT), which is scheduled to visit the affected regions from August 8th to 10th.
