A woman claimed that she was allegedly bitten by a snake at a state-run taluk hospital in Chittoor while accompanying her daughter for a medical procedure on Wednesday. The incident reportedly took place while the woman was collecting a urine sample for her daughter's treatment.
While Gayatri's daughter was admitted to the hospital with a fever, the patient's urine spilled on the floor. In the morning, Gayatri thought of cleaning up urine so she went to get a broom. However, at that time a snake bit her hand, according to her claim, as quoted by Asianet.
On Wednesday at 11 am, Gayatri, a native of Karipod, Pudunanagar, Palakkad, complained that she was bitten by a snake at the Chittoor Taluk Hospital. A relative of the woman also claimed that the snake bit her. Following the incident, the woman was referred to the district hospital for further treatment.
Director of Health Services Denies 'Snake Bite' Claim
Contradicting this account, Director of Health Services (DHS) K. J. Reena stated that there were no bite marks found on the woman during a preliminary examination. Reena also mentioned that the snake, which had been captured and kept in a bottle, was identified as non-venomous, as per a report on PTI.
Despite this, the DHS criticised the decision to transfer the woman to the district hospital, noting that anti-venom treatment was available at the taluk hospital. Health authorities have confirmed that the woman's condition is currently stable.
