Chennai: Two teenaged girls allegedly murdered a 70-year-old relative who tried to rape their mother, and dumped his body in a well nearby in Wayanad on Tuesday. The man was identified as the husband of their paternal aunt. 


According to a report in PTI, the girls aged 15 and 16 surrendered before the Ambalavayal police along with their mother immediately after the incident. 


The two minor girls tld the police that they were playing in their home when they suddenly noticed the 70-year-old man trying to rape their mother. The girls tried to stop him but he refused to budge, following which they hacked him to death, the police were quoted as saying. The incident took place around 11 am on Tuesday.

Later, the two children along with their mothers stuffed the old man's body in a sack and dumped it in a well.


The police, based on a complaint lodged by the man's two wives and children, filed a case against the accused. The police have booked the girls on charges of murder.

Meanwhile, in another case, a notorious criminal, 'Ripper' Jayanandan, has been arrested for a 17-year-old double murder case. On May 30, 2004, a 74-year-old woman was raped and murdered while another man was killed in Edappally. As the police arrested Jayanandan and conducted a probe, they found that he was behind the double murder that shook the state.
