Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday has announced in Assembly that there will an increment of 14 per cent of the Dearness Allowance from January 1, 2022, to Tamil Nadu employees and pensioners. Additionally, employees of categories C and D will be getting Pongal gifts, he said.
Earlier the DA was 17 per cent and now it goes up to 31 per cent. This increment in Dearness Allowance would cost the state government Rs 8,724 crore per year. Due to early implementation, it would cost extra Rs 1,620 crore. This will benefit 16 lakh employees and pensioners in the state.

Earlier it was decided to give the employees a hike in the Dearness Allowance from April 2022, but Stalin in the Assembly on Tuesday said that albeit the government being bogged bown by the financial constraints it has decided to give effect to the increment in DA from January, 2022.
Besides, he also announced that the bonus increments -- that were cancelled in 2020 -- for the government employees would be revived. “It will be implemented based on the guidelines issued by the Union government. It will increase their [the employees’] performance and skills,” Stalin said as quoted by The Hindu.
Another noteworthy announcement of the streak of other decisions Stalin has taken on Tuesday is, Tamil Nadu Public Services Commission (TNPSC) to recruit junior assistants to fill the vacancies in the government schools.
