A man, accused in the murder case of a gangster in Karnataka, was hacked to death on Sunday night in Mangaluru.


Police said that the deceased, Mohammed Shameer, was killed by members of a gang who attacked him with swords at around 10 pm on Sunday. Mohammed Shameer, was a resident of Ullal Kadappura, had gone to a restaurant with his mother when he was attacked near a national highway at Kallapu. 


As Shameer and his mother were about to enter the restaurant, the attackers who had been trailing them in a car attacked Sameer with a sword when he stepped out.

Upon realising the danger, Sameer tried to flee the scene, but the gang members chased him for about 500 meters and caught him near a furniture showroom where they killed him.


“Shameer had gone to a restaurant with his mother. As they were about to enter the restaurant, a gang that had been following him in a car attacked Sameer with swords. Shameer tried to escape but the gang chased him for about 500 m and killed him,” a police officer told The Indian Express.


Shameer was an accused in the murder case of Karnataka’s gangster Ilyas alias Target Ilyas in Mangaluru in January 2018. He was later acquitted in the case in December last year.

The Ullal police have registered a case in the murder and suspect that members of the Ilyas gang are behind the attack on Shameer.


Target Ilyas was murdered at his residence at Jeppu in 2018. A complaint was filed by Illyas's wife after which nine people including Mohammed Shameer were arrested in the murder case.
