Ex-Jharkhand CM Champai Soren Resigns From JMM, Says 'Forced To Quit'

Former Jharkhand CM and senior tribal leader Champai Soren quit the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha on August 28. He is set to join BJP on August 30.

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren resigned from the primary membership and all posts of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha on Wednesday, August 28. Soren is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party on August 30. Soren had visited Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi earlier this week, following which he confirmed on Wednesday that he would join the BJP along with his son. 

"Today I resigned from the primary membership and all the posts of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Our struggle will continue on the issues of tribals, original residents, Dalits, backward classes and common people of Jharkhand." Champai Soren posted on X after he quit JMM.

In his resignation letter to party chief Shibu Soren, Champai Soren wrote that he is has been compelled to take the decision to quit JMM as he is aggrieved by the party's present style of functioning. "I, Champai Soren, am compelled to leave the party due to my dissatisfaction with the current working style and policies of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. It is with great sorrow that I must say that the party, which we envisioned and for which we wandered through forests, mountains, and villages under your guidance, has now deviated from its path," he wrote.

Addressing JMM as his family, Soren said that he did not comprehend that he would have to quit the party someday. "However, due to recent events, I have had to make this difficult decision with great pain," he said.

The senior tribal leader also mentioned how there is an absence of a forum in JMM where one can express grievances, which led him to tender his resignation. "Given your current health condition, you are distant from active politics, and apart from you, there is no forum within the party where we can express our grievances. For this reason, I am resigning from the primary membership and all positions of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha," Soren wrote in the letter.

Earlier today Soren also asserted that his decision to join the saffron camp is driven by the intention to work for Jharkhand's interest. In an exclusive interview with ABP News, Champai Soren also expressed his faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. "I got the confidence that I would be able to save the existence of the tribals in Jharkhand. "I have come to BJP with the issue of Jharkhand," he added.
