Gujarat: A video capturing a fierce clash between two dogs and two lions has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred on Sunday at a cowshed in Savarkundla in Gujarat's Amreli, located around 70 kilometres away from the Gir National Park, which is famous for Asiatic lions.

The entire face off was recorded in the CCTV installed at the cowshed's entrance.

In the video, a lion can be seen approaching the area from outside when a fearless dog suddenly comes towards the gate to confront it. The dog is then joined by another dog. Both of the dogs fearlessly clash with the lion, while it tries to attack them from the other side of the gate. Subsequently, another lion arrives at the spot as the standoff continues between the four from either sides of the gate.

The lions slam against the iron gate that separated them from each other. Fortunately, the gate could not open and the dogs remained safe from the lions, despite their attempts to overpower them.

As a man purportedly the place's guard arrived at the spot with a torch and stick in his hand, the lions fled into the nearby bushes.

He then opened the gate to inspect the area, trying to figure out the reason behind the commotion. After finding nothing he went back inside and locked the gate.

One of the dogs even braved to venture to the other side after the lions left.

Here's the video of the clash between the dogs and the lions.

The incident comes a day after Gujarat celebrated World Lion Day at the Communication Center in Sasan-Gir under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

The celebration was organised across 11 districts of Saurashtra and witnessed participation of over 21 lakh citizens from over 11,000 educational institutions.

As per an official release by the Gujarat government, the lion population has gone up significantly in the state from 284 in 1990 to 674 in 2020.
