From Kite Flying To Entry Of Heavy Transport Vehicles: Restrictions Announced Ahead Of Independence Day

The DMRC issued an advisory to the general public to refrain from flying kites in the immediate vicinity of elevated Metro lines passing through residential areas for public safety.

Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, several restrictions have been imposed by the Delhi Police in view of the preparations and flag-hoisting at the Red Fort.

The Delhi Traffic Police and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation announced several measures ahead of August 15. 

Here's a look at some of the traffic measures introduced in the national capital:

• Several traffic diversions have been imposed on the borders of Delhi from Monday in view of the Independence Day celebration with heavy transport vehicles (HTV) prohibited from entering the city.


• With the traffic diversions effective at Delhi borders, no HTV will be allowed to enter the city on Monday at 10 pm to Tuesday 12 pm and similarly from Wednesday 10 pm to Thursday 12 pm, the advisory said.


• In view of the restrictions, the police urged essential service providers to keep sufficient essential commodities such as oxygen cylinders, among others in advance so that they may not face any difficulty during this period.

• The DMRC issued an advisory to the general public to refrain from flying kites in the immediate vicinity of elevated Metro lines passing through residential areas for public safety. It said that any direct or indirect contact with the 25,000 Voltage Over Head Equipment (OHE) wires may prove fatal besides leading to OHE tripping or damage to the Metro train.

• To prevent such incidences, DMRC has a robust mechanism in place to check and prevent any kind of disruptions wherein dedicated teams are deployed near kite-prone stations to swiftly remove the kite strings as and when spotted besides advising the train operators and station staff to be more cautious in spotting kite strings, the DMRC said.


• Meanwhile, on August 15, traffic restrictions will be in place around Red Fort from 4 am to 10 am. The roads that will be closed for general traffic include Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road and parts of Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.


• Moreover, vehicles without parking labels for the rehearsal should avoid C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, JL Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate, and Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmere Gate via Salimgarh bypass.


• Inter-state buses will also not be allowed between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT from Monday.


• According to the police advisory, elaborate law and order and traffic arrangements have been made for the celebrations on August 15.


• Flying of sub-conventional aerial platforms like paragliders, para-motors, hang gliders, UAVs, micro-light aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, quadcopters or para jumping from aircraft etc are prohibited over the jurisdiction of Delhi till August 15.


• The general public and motorists are advised to keep patience, observe traffic rules and road discipline and follow direction of traffic personnel deployed at all intersections, the advisory added.
