India will be commemorating its 78th Independence Day on Thursday and preparations are underway at Delhi's Red Fort to ensure the smooth-sailing of the celebrations.
Security forces personnel were in position as part of I-Day drills at the fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take the podium for his first I-Day speech of his third term.
Delhi Police have enhanced the security arrangements and decided to implement advanced CCTV analytics around the Red Fort. The police said this measure aims to reduce human errors and ensure any suspicious movements are promptly detected and addressed.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North Delhi Manoj Kumar Meena said the CCTV analytics will be closely monitored, and any incidents will be addressed accordingly.
South-East Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Harsh Indora told ANI that police have “been deployed across the district". The police have sealed guest houses and hotels operating without a licence. There are checkposts at all borders where vehicles are being checked thoroughly.
Indora added, “Local police and external forces have been deployed in Lajpat Nagar… CCTV cameras are also being monitored.”
Officials said the new system is programmed to identify different forms of suspicious behaviour. For example, if an unattended bag is detected near the Red Fort, the system will alert the monitoring staff. It can also analyse individual movements, detecting patterns such as repeated presence in specific areas or unusual behaviours.
Over 10,000 security personnel, including Delhi Police and paramilitary troopers, will be deployed in and around the Red Fort and other crucial locations in central and north Delhi, ANI reported.
A traffic advisory issued states that no heavy transport vehicle (HTV) will be allowed to enter the city from Monday at 10 pm to Thursday at noon.
