Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxea saying cabinet minister Atishi will hoist the national flag in his place during the city government's Independence Day function on August 15.

The Delhi Chief Minister is currently lodged in Tihar jail in a CBI case about corruption and money laundering linked to the alleged scam in the implementation of liquor policy in the national capital.

"Kejriwal has written to (Lieutenant Governor V K) Saxena from jail saying that Atishi will hoist the tricolour in his place on August 15," said the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday.

Delhi government's Independence function takes place at Chhatrasal Stadium every year where Kejriwal addresses the gathering.

The Delhi High Court on Monday junked Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The court also dismissed the interim bail plea with the liberty to approach the trial court.

The Delhi High Court had last week reserved verdict in a regular bail petition filed by the jailed Chief Minister.

The probe agency has opposed Kejriwal's bail saying it has filed the final chargesheet and it is ready to begin the trial. The agency's counsel argued that the Delhi CM is the head of cabinet and he signed the New Excise Policy.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Kejriwal argued that just by signing if Kejriwal becomes mastermind then LG VK Saxena also signed the policy, he should also be impleaded in the case.

The Aam Aadmi Party chief was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the money laundering case on March 21. He was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court but was later arrested again by the CBI in connection with the alleged liquor policy case.
