The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operation (IFSO) unit of Delhi Police has lodged an FIR regarding an inappropriate remark made about the widow of Kirti Chakra recipient Captain Anshuman Singh on social media handle X, officials said on Saturday. This comes days after the National Commission for Women (NCW) took a suo motu cognisance of the issue and filed a complaint before Delhi Police on Monday.

A police officer said that the FIR was registered by the IFSO unit under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita Act and the Information Technology (IT) Act. Additionally, the social media platform has been contacted to provide information about the account that made the offensive statements. 


The late Captain's father Ravi Pratap Singh condemned the indecent comments, saying"...This is condemnable and objectionable that someone is making such indecent comments. I have full faith in the judicial system. This is not only an indecent comment on my daughter-in-law but on the widow of that brave soldier... I will wait for the day when justice will be served, " ANI quoted saying.






NCW Condemns Over Lewd Remark


The NCW highlights the specific legal provisions against the comment that violates, including Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, in a letter issued on Monday. This penalises acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman, and Section 67 of the IT Act, 2000, deals with the punishment for publishing or transmitting inappropriate material in electronic form.


"National Commission for Women (NCW) has identified a lewd and derogatory comment made by Ahmad K. from Delhi on a photo of a Kirt Chakra Captain Anshuman Singh's widow. This act violates Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. NCW condemns this behavior and urges immediate police action, " the NCW wrote on its social media handle X.






The commission also called for a fair and timely investigation into the matter and requested a detailed action taken report (ATR) within three days. "Hon’ble Chairperson Ms Rekha Sharma @sharmarekha has sent a letter to the Delhi commissioner of Police @DelhiPolice @DCPCentralDelhi to arrest the accused and send A detailed report within 3 days. @CyPAD_Delhi," it added.
