New Delhi: Amid the ongoing 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' of the Congress, the party was left to firefight a major gaffe on Day 14 of their ambitious rally after a poster of the yatra had a photo of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in a line-up with other freedom fighters. Meanwhile, Independent MLA from Kerala PV Anwar has the support of LDF. Posting a video on the social media platform Facebook, he said that there is a picture of Savarkar on the boards placed at Chengamanad as part of the Congress's Bharat Jodo Yatra.
“When pointed out that VD Savarkar's photo was on the Bharat Jodo Yatra’s poster in Aluva, the Muslim League's narrative was that the poster is from Karnataka, where the BJP had installed the poster during the Independence Day celebrations. But the poster is from Kerala, not from Karnataka. The Congress has rectified its mistake by covering Savarkar's image with that of Mahatma Gandhi’s,” the MLA wrote.
Seeing Savarkar's photo on the Congress poster, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted, "Veer Savarkar’s pictures adorn Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Ernakulum (near the airport). Although belated, good realisation for Rahul Gandhi, whose great grandfather Nehru, signed a mercy petition, pleaded the British to allow him to flee from Punjab’s Nabha jail in just 2 weeks."
“Rahul ji, no matter how much you try history and the truth comes out Savarkar was Veer! Those who hide are the “kaayars”,” tweeted Shehzad Poonawalla.
The 3,500-km march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir will be completed in 150 days and cover as many as 12 states. From Kerala, the Yatra will traverse through the state for the next 18 days, reaching Karnataka on September 30. It will be in Karnataka for 21 days before moving north. The Padyatra (march) will cover a distance of 25 km every day.
