Chhattisgarh School Education Minister Prem Sai Singh Takem on Thursday resigned from the state cabinet. He said that his resignation was sought and the decision to leave was not his own. Former Congress president Mohan Markam is likely to replace him as Education Minister and may take oath as minister on Friday morning at Raj Bhavan. As per inputs, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel sought Takem's resignation on the instructions of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

This comes after the Congress appointed Bastar Lok Sabha MP Deepak Baij as the new Chattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPPC) President replacing Kondagaon MLA Mohan Markam.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit out at the Congress over the murmurs that Mohan Markam will be the next School Education minister.

"Keep sitting on the seashore, someday the wave will come! Protest, indulge in sycophancy, someday the lottery will be yours!!! Congress circus continues...." the Hindi tweet read.

Last year, Tekam courted controversy by reciting lines from Harivansh Rai Bachchan's legendary book 'Madhushala' at a de-addiction programme. He raised eyebrows over his remarks saying how liquor unites people but must be consumed in a controlled manner.

"Harivansh Rai Bachchan ji had written 'mandir masjid jhagda karate, lekin ek karati madhushala'. But there should be control (in consumption of liquor). You should have control on your own," the minister said in his speech, as quoted by news agency PTI.

"I attended a meeting where one section opposed the consumption of liquor citing its ill effects, while another section favoured it citing its benefits. Liquor unites everyone. We also use it sometimes in celebrations and elections," Tekam added.

He went on to remark that "daaru (liquor) meant 'D', which also stood for dilution with water as well as duration, as all of it must not be had at once. Then he advised the gathering about the ill effects of alcohol and said one must not get addicted.
