New Delhi: After assuming the chief ministerial office in Jharkhand on Friday, Champai Soren vowed to expedite the work for the development of the state started by his predecessor Hemant Soren. Champai Soren, also known as the “Jharkhand Tiger” for being at the forefront of the statehood movement, took oath as the 12th chief minister in Raj Bhavan earlier in the day. This comes two days after Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over his alleged connection to a land “scam” case.
Speaking to the media after oath-taking, Champai Soren said his predecessor has started several schemes for the development of the tribals and added that he will ensure all the work is completed on time.
“Hemant Soren worked for the all-round development of the tribals. I will speed up the work started by him and we will complete the work on time towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people,” news agency ANI quoted CM Champai Soren as saying.
Hailing the state’s progress under the leadership of Hemant Soren, CM Champai Soren said he will ensure overall development in all sectors, including agriculture, trade, education, health, transport, among others.
Taking a dig at the Opposition, the chief minister said the Opposition had tried to “create instability” in the state, but failed in their attempt due to the “strength of the alliance”. He also asserted that he will participate in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in the state.
Notably, along with Champai Soren, Congress leaders Alamgir Alam and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Satyanand Bhokta also took oath as a ministers in the Jharkhand cabinet.
After the oath-taking, Governor CP Radhakrishnan said the new leaders should ensure the benefits of the government schemes reach even the economically backwards section of the society and do everything to fulfil their needs, ANI reported.
