Bihar: Man Arrested From Jamui For Sharing Fake Videos Of Migrants Being Attacked In Tamil Nadu

Four individuals have been booked by the Bihar Police's Economic Offence Unit (EOU) in connection with the case.

A man was arrested on Monday from the Jamui district of Bihar for allegedly sharing fake videos on social media of alleged attacks on migrant workers from the state of Tamil Nadu, said police, reported news agency PTI.

According to a statement, four individuals have been booked by the Bihar Police's Economic Offence Unit (EOU) in connection with the case.

Aman Kumar, Rakesh Tiwary, Yuvraj Singh Rajput, and Manish Kashyap are the people named in the case. According to police, Aman Kumar, a resident of Laxmipur in the Jamui district, was taken into custody while the others were being sought.

According to the statement, "An investigation by the EOU has revealed that the accused were indulging in spreading fake videos of migrants being killed and beaten up in Tamil Nadu on social media."

According to the police, thirty of these videos were widely circulated on social media, prompting panicked migrant workers from Bihar to flee Tamil Nadu.

They stated that notices have been sent to service providers for the preservation of 42 such videos, nine on Facebook, fifteen each on Twitter and YouTube, and three on Gmail, for the purpose of additional investigation.

According to the police, "a 10-member team of the EOU is analysing these videos," and those who post and share such videos for the purpose of spreading rumors will be dealt with severely.

In order to coordinate with officers in Tamil Nadu who were conducting the investigation there, the Bihar government sent a four-person team of high-ranking officials there.

M K Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, reassured his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar on Saturday that all migrant workers are safe. The police in the southern state have also filed criminal charges against two journalists for spreading rumors, including the editor of a Hindi daily.

The DMK and BJP, who are in power, got into a political fight over false claims about attacks on migrant workers in Tamil Nadu. The saffron party went after the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, which sent an official team to find out the truth.
