New Delhi: BJP workers in West Bengal's Bankura staged a protest against the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government and local administration over the death of a party worker in Nidhirampur village, news agency ANI reported. Tension prevailed in the Bengal district after the body of BJP worker Shubhadeep Mishra alias Deepu was found hanging from a tree with his hands tied, IANS reported. He contested the panchayat elections earlier this year.
According to his family members, Mishra had gone missing for the last seven days. His body was found hanging from the tree, with his hands tied by a cloth, on Wednesday.
As the news of Mishra’s death spread, tension flared up in the area and when police reached the spot, BJP MLA from Saltora Assembly constituency Chandana Bauri staged a protest and refused to hand over the body to the officials, IANS reported.
While the police are investigating the matter, BJP alleged TMC was behind his murder. They also demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari claimed Mishra was murdered by the local goons at the behest of the ruling Trinamool Congress as they were afraid of his growing popularity.
Taking to X, the BJP leader wrote, “TMC goons have murdered Subhadeep Mishra and hung his body from a tree with his hands tied. Mishra of Bankura District was a BJP candidate. He had contested the Panchayat Elections this year from Nidhirampur at Lotiyaboni Anchal of Gangajalghati Block in the Saltora Assembly Constituency area. He has been killed as the TMC goons couldn't digest his growing popularity and stance against corruption.”
"I demand CBI investigation as Police would do their best to tamper evidence and protect the culprits who belong to the ruling TMC party, in order to please their political masters," he added.
However, according to Mishra’s family member, he was having an affair with a married woman and her family allegedly murdered him, news agency ANI reported.
