A member of YSRCP youth wing was hacked to death on a busy street in Vinukonda town in Palnadu of Andhra Pradesh. The video of the murder showed assailant Sheikh Jilani using a machete to carry out the heinous act. Witnesses reported that Rasheed sustained severe injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital. However, as his condition was critical and he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident, captured on video, showed the attacker severing both hands of the victim and hacking him on his neck.
The video has sparked outrage and condemnation from the YSR Congress Party, which has demanded swift and severe action against Jilani. The initial belief was that the attack stemmed from political rivalry between the YSRCP and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Palnadu District Superintendent of Police K. Srinivasa Rao addressed the media, stating that the investigation revealed the murder was driven by personal rivalry, not political motives. He emphasised that the incident was the result of a private dispute and assured that stringent action would be taken against the perpetrator.
To maintain peace and order in the aftermath of the attack, Section 144 has been imposed in Vinukonda town. SP Rao reassured the public that any attempts to disturb the peace would not be tolerated.
YSRCP Leader Hacked To Death: Party, President Blames TDP
Despite the police's clarification, the YSR Congress Party has continued to attribute the violence to political motivations. Taking to X, YSRCP said, "Jilani, a TDP goon who transformed into an anthropomorphic monster, has brutally killed a YSRCP activist in Palnadu. Vinukonda YSRCP youth wing leader Rashid was viciously attacked with a knife, leading to severe injuries to both his hands and a fatal neck wound. Rashid tragically died while receiving treatment in the hospital."
They released a strong statement condemning the attack and blaming the TDP for fostering a culture of violence. The statement specifically called out TDP leaders, questioning their role in perpetuating such brutal political tactics.
Reacting on the murder, Jagan Mohan Reddy said, "I offer my deepest condolences to the family of Rashid, who was murdered by TDP workers in Vinukonda...The government is indulging in heinous acts to suppress the opposition... I strongly warn Chandrababu Naidu that power is not permanent and that he should give up his violent ways. I appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to take note of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state."

YSRCP leader Kasu Mahesh Reddy said, "Yesterday, TDP goonda attacked YSRCP Muslim minority leader and murdered him in Vinukonda...We are requesting the Central government to intervene immediately."
