World Badminton C'ships: PV Sindhu stuns Sun Yu to reach semis

Glasgow [Scotland], Aug 25 (ANI): Rio-Olympic silver-medallist PV Sindhu cemented her place in the semi-finals of the World Badminton Championships, after thrashing fifth-seed Sun Yu of China in straight games of the women's singles event here on Friday.

The 22-year-old, the world number four, was in a ruthless mood throughout the quarter-final clash as she dispatched her Chinese opponent and fifth-seed 21-14, 21-9 in just 39 minutes.

Prior to this match, Sun led the pair's head-to-head 4-3, having defeated Sindhu in straight games in their last meeting in Dubai last December.

The Indian, who has now guaranteed herself a medal after reaching last-four, will now cross swords with China's Chen Yufei for a place in the summit showdown.

Saina Nehwal, another Indian in fray, will also aim to look her place in the semi-finals when she takes on Scotland's Kirsty Gilmour later in the day. (ANI)
