Reigning World Boxing Champion Nikhat Zareen did no harm to her reputation and sealed her place in the semifinal of the Women's World Boxing Championships in Delhi to assure India of another medal. Nikhat beat Thailand's Chuthamat Raksat 5-2 in the quarterfinal of the 50 kg category to head into the semis.
Meanwhile, Saweety beat Belarus' Viktoriya Kebikava 5-0 in her first bout but that proves enough for her to reach the final four. Nitu Ghanghas had earlier won by a Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) against Japan's Madoka Wada to assure India of its first medal. And now even Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg) has guaranteed the country of another medal in this edition and her third in World Championships. Lovlina got the better of Mozambique’s Rady Gramane 5-0.
However, it wasn't all good news for India as Sakshi Chaudhary (52kg), Manisha Moun (57kg), Jaismine Lamboria (60kg) and Nupur Sheoran (+81kg) succumbed to defeats.
Talking about the next bouts for the winners, Lovlina will lock horns with former World Champion and two time Olympic medallist China's Li Qian in the semifinal. As far as Nikhat. the 52 Kg world champion, is concerned, she will have to be ready to face Colombian World and Olympic medallist Ingrit Valencia in her semifinal encounter.
Talking about Nitu's forthcoming bout, after completing a hat-trick of wins by RSC she would itching to continue her same form when she faced Kazakh's Asian Champion and a silver medallist of the World Championships Alua Balkibekova.
Saweety, on the other hand, had received a bye in her first round but her win implies she will now fight against Australian Emma-Sue Greentree in the semifinal.
