Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman on Monday applauded the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel, who are carrying out the search and rescue operations in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district in the aftermath of the glacier burst.
Taking to micro-blogging platform Twitter, Laxman wrote “Respect” and shared a video of the ITBP personnel conducting the rescue operations.

According to reports, 26 bodies so far have been recovered and over 170 people are still missing following the massive devastation on Sunday.

Besides the ITBP personnel, teams of NDRF, SDRF and Indian Army are making continuous efforts to rescue those trapped.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, who took stock of the situation, said the priority now is to save lives and rehabilitate the displaced people.
Informing that experts are ascertaining the cause of the tragedy, Rawat said the economic loss due to the disaster will be ascertained in due course of time.

The Centre is providing all possible assistance to the Uttarakhand Government in this hour of crisis.
