IPL 2021: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Capitals played IPL 2021’s first Super Over. Delhi Capitals came out victorious in a match that went on like a see-saw game. SRH went down fighting, but the decision to not promote Bairstow to open the innings in the super over did not really go down well. Virender Sehwag also questioned and said, “can't get why would he not be your first choice in a #SuperOver…”

Nonetheless, it was a great game of cricket. The match was being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Delhi Capitals scored 159 runs and posed a target of 160 runs for SRH. They were perhaps, 15 runs short of where they could have been as per the start that they got. Sunrisers Hyderabad started brilliantly with the bat. Bairstow added 38 runs in 18 balls and was the only top order batsman above the strike rate of 200.

In the final over, Williamson, who was the main man for SRH with the bat, who scored 66 in 51 balls was not able to score 14 in the last over. Thus, Axar Patel bowled the super over for DC and gave away only 7 runs. Warner and Williamson came out to bat for SRH and couldn’t put away many balls. That’s why Sehwag criticized the decision of not promoting Bairstow. Check out his tweet:

Delhi Capitals win their fourth match in five games to take the second position in the points table.

Let’s see what the captains said after the match:

Shikhar Dhawan (Stand in captain): “It was a thrilling game and shouldn't have gone to the Super Over. We should have won it easily, but we made few mistakes but that's part of the journey. I feel that the two boundaries which Avesh got hit, we should have contained them. But, it's part of the game.”

David Warner: “It has been a tough one. The way our bowlers came back after the powerplay was fantastic. We knew on this surface if you got off to a flier it is always going to be tough in the middle, the bowlers executed well. They bowled well in the middle and made it challenging for us. If you hit the ball to a world class fielder, you are going to get run out 9 times out of 10”

Prithvi Shaw was adjudged Man of the Match for his innings of 53 runs in 39 balls.
