New Delhi: England cricket team's former star batter, on Monday, took to Twitter to reveal that his 'immediate family' managed to escape from Ukraine amid the ongoing invasion by the Russian army. In his Twitter post, Pietersen revealed that Poland has been incredible for fleeing Ukrainians and that his immediate family received a lot of love in the country ever since they arrived there.
"I can just tell you that Poland has been incredible to fleeing Ukrainians. From the border to the city of Warsaw. I've had immediate family that have just escaped & they say that the love they've received in Poland is beyond anything they've ever experienced. #ThankYouPoland," the cricketer-turned-commentator wrote on Twitter.
Over 500,000 Ukrainian have fled from their home to seek refuge in neighboring countries. In a positive development, Russia and Ukrainian delegations are meeting in Belarus on Monday with the aim of an immediate ceasefire. It is still not clear whether any progress has been achieved in the Russia-Ukraine peace talks or not.
Meanwhile, after recommending Indian nationals and students to leave regions of violent fighting, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, issued a new advisory on Monday directing students to the railway station.
"Weekend curfew lifted in Kyiv. All students are advised to make their way to the railway station for an onward journey to the western parts. Ukraine Railways is putting special trains for evacuations," reads the fresh advisory.
