Stay Patient, Expect Delays In Trains Schedule: Indian Embassy In Ukraine Issues Fresh Advisory For Citizens

"Weekend curfew lifted in Kyiv. All students are advised to make their way to the railway station for an onward journey to the western parts," reads the fresh advisory.

New Delhi: After recommending Indian nationals and students to leave regions of violent fighting, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, issued a new advisory on Monday directing students to the railway station.

"Weekend curfew lifted in Kyiv. All students are advised to make their way to the railway station for an onward journey to the western parts. Ukraine Railways is putting special trains for evacuations," reads the fresh advisory.

“We sincerely request all Indian nationals/students to remain calm, peaceful and united. A large crowd can be expected at the railway stations, therefore, it is advised that all Indian students remain patient, composed and especially not to exhibit aggressive behaviours while at the railway stations. We expect delays in trains’ schedule, even cancellation at times and long queues. Indian students are requested to carry their passport, sufficient cash, ready to eat meals, easily accessible winter clothing and only essential items, to ensure easy mobility," further reads the advisory.

Operation Ganga

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla announced on Sunday that the Indian government has initiated a multi-pronged evacuation strategy dubbed 'Operation Ganga' to rescue Indian residents stuck in Ukraine.

The Centre has also established a special Twitter handle, "OpGanga Helpline," to aid with the evacuation of Indians from Ukraine as part of Operation Ganga.

Given the emergency scenario, the Indian government is footing the bill for evacuation.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reportedly sending four union ministers to Ukraine's neighbouring nations to oversee evacuations of stranded Indians as a result of Russian military activities in Ukraine.

According to ANI, Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju, and Gen (Retd) VK Singh would fly to Ukraine's neighbouring nations to organise the evacuation effort and assist students.

PM Modi also convened a second high-level meeting to discuss the current situation in Ukraine, including the evacuation of Indian people.

PM Modi met with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, and a slew of top officials for two hours to discuss the situation in Ukraine.
